Health Day reported that over-the-counter cold and cough medicines have sent many children to emergency rooms for drug injuries.

Children have come to emergency rooms for drug injuries due to OTC cold and cough medicines even though the medicines should not be used in children under two years old.

Use of such medications as decongestants, expectorants, antihistamines, and cough suppressants in children under two can cause drug injuries such as apnea.

Use of OTC cold and cough medications could also cause drug injuries in children under the age of two in Texas.
