Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and it’s often caused by years of unprotected sun exposure and sunburns. To protect themselves from skin cancer, many people use sunscreen when they’re at the beach or will be spending time outdoors with their skin exposed to the sun.
Unfortunately, certain sunscreens manufactured by Johnson & Johnson are linked to cancer on their own due to containing a chemical called benzene. Benzene is a known carcinogen and it’s a major ingredient in certain aerosol sunscreens, including:
- Aveeno Protect + Refresh
- Beach Defense aerosol sunscreen
- CoolDry Sport aerosol sunscreen
- Invisible Daily Defense aerosol sunscreen
- UltraSheer aerosol sunscreen
Thankfully, Johnson & Johnson recalled these products after it was determined that they contain dangerous levels of benzene. However, countless people may have been exposed to the benzene in these products, as they were on store shelves for a long time before they were recalled.
The most common types of cancer associated with benzene exposure are leukemia and lymphoma. People with benzene-related injuries also may develop tremors, headaches, and rapid or irregular heartbeats.
Although Johnson & Johnson has recalled the dangerous sunscreen products, that shouldn’t absolve them from liability, especially if countless people developed cancer as a result of these dangerous products. If you or someone you love developed leukemia, a blood disease, or lymphoma after using a recalled sunscreen, we want to help.
